All the BL manhua I've ever read are not as good as yaoi and shonen-ai manga. I find many flaws in both their art and writing. This time, Hualongji drives me crazy. Its artwork is superbly beautiful, the story is unexpectedly satisfying. However, the plot sure is all over the place. I began to read when more than 200 chapters were translated (not to English, so sad) so I can more or less grab what's happening. You should know that later on, the authors will introduce 2 or 3 more couples, and the chapters will switch between these couples alternatively. There're extras set in parallel universe (aka noncanon story about the child of Yu Heng and Qiong Tian). Once, the main story also abruptly changes setting and characters all change their profiles (trapped in an illusionary world, sort like Inception). The clues lead to the main antagonist(s) keep our heroes on a wild goose chase through different places and people. So if you fall in love with Hualongji like myself, prepare yourself for a bumpy ride to read one chapter at a time and try to figure out when what is happening to whom. A tip: the flashback scenes have black frames instead of white frames of the normal scenes. Also, the kisses are usually covered (like Yuri on Ice). There are some yaoi pics that are already blur censored, but the authors only post them to their weibo social networks, not even the official raw site have them. Lets hope the English translators get the whole thing.

Maybe it is something cultural, because I have seen the same with other types of manhua and webtoons, not all are like this, several are in fact good, but I suspect it is a cultural thing and I also suspect there is a language barrier and cultural barrier, some stuff are better explained using the original language than english!!!

There's nothing from the Big Empire that is strange to me. Usually, I read manhua (BL and non-BL) already translated to my language like Hualongji. In comparison, Japanese culture to me is more unfamiliar, and I approach manga through English translations. So when I stated that the BL manhua I read are not as good as manga, I strictly implied their quality, especially the structure and the storytelling which are so disorganized and lacking in meaningful concepts that I question whether or not the authors really know where are they heading. Their artworks are also very uneven, not always maintain the styles, the visual effects and rich detailed background from chapter to chapter, which I hardly miss in manga. I'm not sure what to say, maybe I feel the art of manhua is not "ripened". The best thing I found in manhua is their uniqueness, not always much attractive or pleasant. (Of course I know that there are superior manhua out there that I simply haven't read yet, so my speaking here is only based on personal experiences, hope that the sensitive ones don't feel offended.) Back in the case of Hualongji, this is the first manhua I admire so much, both art and writing with fine characters that make me care for. What I like best is the fact that the authors are very attentive. They put a wonderful fan service artwork as the head page of every chapter. How nice! So I wish to share my good time reading Hualongji with everyone here. However, putting myself in an English speaking reader's shoes, I imagine the irritation you may find, and I put some notices and tips in hope that you can be a little more patient with the story :) I believe the artwork is worth it. So sad, the translation to my language is the fullest so far, if only I had time and permission from the translators, I would do my best to translate all 100 chapters I read to English for you all.

My biggest complain in rape un Manhua is in non-BL stories, were Main female character suffer rape and abuse from the man she loves and many times they end happy together forgotting the abuse, for once I will love to see one of these mc say Fuck You and make the ML suffer and been happy with a good guy!!! Also, many times the story makes you understand it is the victim fault all the abuse, only when she become submissive and obey when she becomes happy!!!
Also, Manhuas authors don't know how to finish a story, they continue and continue and continue giving problems to the mc, many times repeating the problems, so I get bored after some time, therw are exceptions, but some stories I would love they finish them... it is like USA tv shows, they try to get the most of it making it too long and adding unnecessary things in it!!!

It tends to trigger my empathy for the female victim. The egoist me can't help thinking "what should she (I) do in that situation?", and all the romances in the story are destroyed since I can't accept such a horrible crime (even has been sugar-coated) to happen. If it's in BL, I'm spared the fear and anger because I hardly feel the link between the uke and myself. I understand your complaint about Chinese straight romance novels and manhua. I give up on them because it's hopeless to make the main characters reasonable human beings. The female MC are badly categorized as 3 types: humiliating moron, vexing bitch, and hypocrite, and they never have a chance to stay away from the bastards. The male MC are degraded to the point that their only purpose in life is to fuck the female. And yet somehow the author hypnotizes herself/himself that a tearjerker love story has been told. I also don't have patience for TV shows anymore, 20 episodes in total are enough to build any decent story, and yet we have to tolerate season 4, 5, 6, 100, 200 with 10 episodes for each season to finally reach the ending. Manhua is more rushing, and many times lack details, it is really cliché, some can be really unoriginal and they make rape and abuse as normal and romantic (something I hate)... and they repeat and repeat the same problems and don't know when to end the story!!!
