The author likes to make these men horrible for a long time so you don't immediately forgive them the second they feel regret about how shitty they've been. One was sharing with you. The other was talking to them and not you. It seems like they were expressing their frustration just as you were. You are telling them not to express their frustration when you are expressing your frustration.
