I love being able to turn off my brain when reading, but even a public toilet knows what needs to be flushed.
Starting with the main character, it’s ridiculous that he was able to get and maintain his job when he’s so stupid. He doesn’t take care of himself, he moves without thinking, he never asks questions he should be asking.
The main character has no personality, and seems more like a blend stereotypes the author/artist enjoys - blushy, easily pushed around, dense, childish, and forgiving. There was an attempt to make him seem independent and even dependable, one character said something along the lines of “he’s only good at his job”(obviously not a direct quote, and I don’t have the exact chapter), but every attempt to show this was overshadowed by ignorance and I’d dare say not once was he actually needed at work.
For someone who was actively working on a serial murder case with rape involved, he was awfully mild about the constant harassment and rape he was facing from the male lead. Another knee slapper is in the side story, when he’s somehow investigating alone and ends up drugged. Again. I wonder what the author could possibly be into. Actually, while on that topic, I can only see the entire point of the side story being to show a “sex” scene where the main character is drugged again. Sex is in quotations because, at the end of the day, even if they try to excuse it in the main character’s dialogue, it was rape. Crazy.
The male lead! The fact that he actively did not seek out the main character, even though he was more than able to, after the “first night”(they’ll call it their first time having sex, I’ll call it the first time the main character was raped), is actually… comparatively better? Than his lack of involvement in the serial murders case.
There are murders happening and you’re FULLY aware that the victims heavily resemble the person you “love.” Beyond that, you even have suspicions about a relative of yours. Despite this, you say and do nothing about it, and even decline/ignore requests for help involving the case. How many could have died because of his negligence? If the main character had not been kidnapped, I doubt he ever would have cared to take any action.
The male lead really did annoy me. Every single chance he had, he was spewing that same “your body’s telling me otherwise” rhetoric every author uses to excuse rape. He was childish. He was negligent. He allowed the main character to stay clueless throughout the entire story. And not once did he ever seem to feel guilty for what he’d done.
As for the antagonist, the duke. It makes absolutely no sense to me that he’d left the main character alone after drugging him. Nobody is written well, but you cannot tell me that somebody with his shitty personality would’ve left the main character unattended in that state. As a duke, surely somebody else could have called a carriage for them. I know the author did it because it’s convenient for the plot, but that doesn’t make me any less baffled. Actually, I preferred the duke over the male lead - had he not been involved in sex crimes and started screaming about the main character being a whore, I actually would’ve been able to say I like him. At least he was honest about liking the main character, I guess. Even though he’s fucked up.
I think the biggest thing that bothered me might’ve been the whole abortion thing. I swear, every single manhwa that has a pregnancy plot follows the same “I should abort it… but I wont kill my baby!” story. It’s ridiculous. Even more so when it’s a result of rape and is, at first glance, guaranteed a hard life, and to make the main character’s life harder. Really, these characters are never in a position to have a child. Makes you start to wonder if it’s propaganda.
The one character I almost liked was the red headed woman, but they ruined her by making her an accomplice to the main character’s ignorance. The art was pretty okay.
I’m not one to talk about good or bad stories considering my reading history - I love toxic slop. But, I finished this manhwa out of spite and not enjoyment. Really, it’s to the point where I had to comment because I have nobody I can rant about this to. If you got this far, consider telling me what you did like about this story! Or dislike. Either way. I love reading people’s opinions. Haha
Said it perfectly, ts was garbage, got reccomended this as a 'good story' shit just pmo. The only good character was the side character that was helping mc. The only sane one.

Calling this good is crazy work lmao now I’m kind of curious what their standard is
You know what? You said it perfectly. In my opinion, the story started well but at a certain point it loosened up a lot. I wish it had been something more interesting and not just something I read looking forward to finishing. Worst of all, I had this as I already read AND my old self gave it five stars. Today I think that a three is what he deserves at most.

It's 100% anti-choice propaganda shit, this crap is RIFE in Japanese comics. "Abortion is murder" girl fuck off. I'm sick and tired of it.
