Honestly I agree, I don't really like side couples in any romance genre though (BL, GL, straight), even if they're objectively written better/healthier than the main couple, idk why though, I guess it's because I get attached to the first couple shown so the side couple(s) gets on my nerves since it derails the storyline.

Same, like, if I wanted to read about some other couple, I'd just read a different story? I've enjoyed maybe 2 side couples in all the stories I've read and in one of those cases they got their development only after the main story had wrapped up
