honestly maxi could do way better than riftan. Cus why does he keep grabbing and screaming at her
Knowing what's to come in the next arc, I genuinely wished the author had grown an extra brain cell and had Maxi leave Riftan permanently. Funny enough, one of the author's other works, Twilight Poem, ends with the protagonist leaving the first ML and ending up with the second ML. If she was going to make Riftan THIS insufferable without any cathartic payoff, I don't know why the hell she didn't take this same narrative approach with Maxi's character arc. In fact, I'd unironically pay to have someone rewrite the novel or remake the comic similar to when a Lore Olympus created a fan retelling of the comic.
He's not justified at all if that idiot spent more time arguing with her and discouraging her from learning magic when he should’ve been looking for safer ways to help her control her abilities instead. Like, you do know that Maxi's dilemma could’ve been handled differently if he actually treated her like a capable person instead of something fragile that needs to be locked away, right?
Let’s be real, part of why Maxi ends up reckless and stubborn in the first place is because Riftan never gives her space to prove her autonomy or trust her own judgment. He doesn’t trust her capabilities as a mage, he doesn’t encourage structured learning—as I said, he actively discouraged it when Ruth initially taught Maxi, and then acts shocked when she pushes herself too far trying to figure things out on her own.
You can’t restrict someone’s growth and then act like their lack of control is some inherent flaw in them. That feedback loop is literally the main problem in their relationship.
The fact that he fell in love with someone he knew from when be was a child was already weird but the fact that the author decided to make him not forget his memories and essentially make it so that he'd groom the MC sure is a choice
