It's like this on every manhwa I read that primarily action/adventure based. Even a HINT of romance people are up in arms because how dare a "bItCh" show interest in the MC or in this case the MC does something "romantic" to get ahead. It's not the end of the world I swear. Even Sung got married and had a kid, stop being so damn weird about romance.
That's not at all surprising. I'm so used to seeing a female chara get used to get ahead I don't even think too far into how their character is written because most of the time they're relegated to background/support people after a little while.
My main issue is how up on arms people get with a hint of anything "romantic". Just my opinion is all.
Why is romance so hated in isekai/action type mangas?
Why immediately assume any love interests are absolutely trash and will hold the MC back?
Take The Great Mage for example, Isabel admires Frey and even more so once she realise he was Lucas and wanted to learn from him and not so subtly admired him. Comments on the daily bashed her and said she was annoying and needed to leave. Why? She wants to learn from him. She's quite strong herself and in fact DOESN'T hold Frey back.
One shouldn't have to be reassured that "tHeRe'S nO RoMaNCe" for you to enjoy the story. Especially if said "romance" is an afterthought or hardly seen.
your point can be summarized in one word: internalized misogyny.
But I don’t think that’s the main or only reason as to why female readers don’t want romance. Here’s others important reasons:
1) japanese male mangaka don’t know how to write female characters 90% of the case. Shonens that are known for their well-written female characters (or better than average at least) are actually really popular with girls (e.g demon slayer). So female readers avoid tropey female characters not necessarily female characters in general
—> hence by avoiding shonen with romance, they are more likely to avoid badly written female characters (bcz when there is romance, they got more screen time)
2) when I read shonen it’s for the action, if I wanted romance I would read shojo or others romance genre ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ I think a lot of people think like that and they prefer 100% action shonen
Same reason as to why shojo adventure mangas are rarely popular: readers think “if I want action, I would go to shonen”
Why is it that if one remotely enjoys noncon/dubcon they get accused of fetishising LGBTQ+ ? This is fiction. If someone goes out, takes what they read in a manga, and does it seriously then THEY need help. Not the ones who just enjoy reading it. I mean for one I'm a cis woman who's happily married with a child. I'm not about to go assault an LGBTQ+ someone because of what I read. Y'all don't want to be accused of all being the same well don't do that to readers who like what they read and group us with the crazy folk. ┑( ̄Д ̄)┍
I'm sure Casis is the ML but I do like to see the change. In both of them really. I like seeing her flustered because she only remembers him in a bad light and seeing him fall for her truly and naturally is so refreshing. I know some people hate seeing the redemption arcs of previous shitty MLs but it's obvious he likes her wants wants to do anything to make her happy. Even if that means trying sweets with her when he hates them lol
