He's not in love with Penelope, he's obsessed with her. He wants her to trust and depend only on him.
So when Ivonne told him the best way to have Penelope for himself is to bring Ivonne back to fl's family (and therefore make the Duke and the brothers ignore and mistreat Penelope again and then Penelope would only trust and depend on him), he did what Ivonne told him without a second thought.

She is not really good Ivonne. I think she had some black magic on her and which made her bad. There was some fight and things I don't remember very much but I think the dad choose Penelope over Ivonne.. Rry search it in reddit. There are people commenting on it. You will understand.
