OP…let’s say I was bullied as a child. Do you think it’s okay for me, even into adulthood, to bully other people? To hit them? Or to call them awful names or to, say, even drive them to the point of suicide, just because I was bullied as a kid?

I’m not saying it’s okay, I’m saying it’s not their fault. Trauma is a delicate and complex thing. It’s not their fault if they were never taught to communicate, or taught that what they’re doing is wrong.

How can they know of they were never told?

Also I’m here for the character development, the story of a broken character, healing and redemption. If u don’t like these things, then simply don’t read them.

Well yes, I agree it’s not someone’s fault if they were traumatized by things that happened to them, but the way that they respond to and react to that trauma IS their responsibility…and if they hurt people because of their trauma it IS their fault and they need to be held accountable. You can excuse like, a child for that kind of behavior, especially if they grew up in an environment where they really truly were never taught any other way to behave, but at a certain point you have to hold someone accountable for not even trying to be well-adjusted…especially if they’re around other people who ARE well-adjusted and who DO tell them the way they act IS wrong.

I wouldn’t blame Jaekyung for being mistreated growing up or whatever, and I wouldn’t even necessarily blame him for some of his more automatic reactions to, say, having his pride threatened. At least not for the feelings, anyway. But I certainly can blame him for like, threatening Dan into sex with him, or making Dan have sex that he doesn’t want/isn’t comfortable having with him. Yeah we can say that he’s doing it for his jinx but he doesn’t have to do all that. What would that even have to do with his so-called trauma? Did gentler sex take his dog out back and shoot it? lmfao. And Dan does tell him no and express his discomfort several times. Do you mean to tell me Jaekyung doesn’t even know what “no” means and I shouldn’t hold him to account for that?

Or let’s just take how he acts during practice or in public—doesn’t he often go too far in even practice matches? Didn’t he have an history of making his PTs quit because of mistreating them? And doesn’t his coach/manager, alongside his teammates, often tell him as much? Go as far as to scold him even? Jaekyung definitely knows to some extent that what he’s doing is wrong—he just doesn’t care. He didn’t have any reason to. There is something to be said about the degree to which people around him also let some of his behavior slide but still, lmao.

Not to mention, plenty of people suffer from trauma and don’t actually go on to go out of their way to hurt other people because of it. Dan is an example of this. We still don’t know what Jaekyung went through growing up but we know Dan was surrounded by these very violent loan sharks for a very long time. Sure he has a non-violent disposition, but he just as easily could’ve learned that he could use violence against others to make them cower away and fear him.

Anyway, I do like character development and stories about broken characters healing and redeeming themselves. I’m just not sure this is one is doing the best at it or Will do the best at it. We’ll see, but ╮(￣▽￣)╭

Jaekyung’s trauma, whatever it is, can explain only so much of his behavior, but after a certain point you just gotta call a spade a spade. Jaekyung acts the way he does yes, in part because of whatever trauma he endured to make him believe he isn’t good enough or whatever, but he also acts that way because he lacks empathy, he’s entitled, and he has a shit ton of money, fame, and power he can use to bully others into submission while suffering little to no real consequences for his behavior. Again, Dan is right there—Jaekyung isn’t special in having suffered adverse circumstances growing up, nor even in the feeling of not being enough. It’s just that Dan isn’t in any position to act the way Jaekyung does, and that even if he was, his disposition and personality might still prevent him from acting in certain ways.

Traumatic experiences and past events can shape behavior and lead to mean behavior. For example, if a child has been raised in an environment of physical and psychological abuse, they may have learned to hate people and harbor a strong distrust toward others. Often, they may continue to feel threatened by others, feeling angry a lot of the time. This may be the case of Jk. Actually,Jinx showed two people with traumatic experiences and how they deal/face/overcome/handle it. Traumatic experiences doesn't only include bullying,and we don't know what happened to jk yet. Jinx only focused on Dan's misery,maybe that's also the reason why Jk appeared as the most hated villain. ╥﹏╥

I don’t deny this! Again, not saying Jaekyung’s behavior hasn’t been influenced by trauma. And I’m not saying trauma can’t make you act in awful ways. I even said I could forgive Jaekyung for whatever *emotions* might come up during certain situations, because of course it’s hard to control how you feel as is, and of course it becomes even more difficult when you’ve gone through traumatic situations. Shit rewires your brain. Honestly when I say Jaekyung isn’t special, I don’t even mean just Dan, I’m thinking about myself, too, and other people I know, and how the traumatic experiences they’ve been through has shaped them. I can relate to having an overly quick temper, I can relate to taking criticism too personally even when I know it’s coming from a good place. Definitely I’ve done less than savory things in response to stuff I’ve been through, and up till now I definitely harbor pretty toxic mindsets around self-worth and productivity and all these things because of the environment I grew up in.

*At the same time* I nor anyone else in my own personal life has ever done, or even thought to do, the things Jaekyung does. Like I said, I think the trauma can only explain so much—I think there are other factors, like I mentioned, at play as to why he behaves the way he does. I think it’s a disservice to his character and some of what this story seems to be trying to say to act like that isn’t the case. Again, Dan is right there. If Jaekyung was in Dan’s position—no money, no fame, no connections—he probably wouldn’t do what he does. He literally wouldn’t be able to. Maybe he’d end up just as violent, sure…but would he go around getting people to have sex with him using his money? No, he wouldn’t be able to. He might still feel just as entitled to sex though, whether or not the other person wants it—that has nothing to do with trauma.

So, like, yeah. People hate Jaekyung not only because there’s been little to no explanation/background for his actions thus far in the story, but also simply because there IS no explanation/background that can ever really justify any of his actions. Like I’m sorry dude, I can somewhat understand someone snapping and yelling at me in the heat of some moment, but to consciously and deliberately take a can of soda and pour it over my head…don’t you think that’s something else entirely?

Some people will never understand why we're drawn to toxic relationships in fiction. Living out those intense emotions through fiction can be cathartic sometimes!

I love my daily dose of "toxic" cause love has different shape and form, I also indulge in psychological reads a lot. But if it's like jinx no that type of toxicity makes absolutely no sense to me.
