Its to “preserve” the Peserus blood. All Peserus bloodline are all alphas that is why they also have alpha partners e.g. the chapter where Theo was bedded by the alphas he has chosen— hence the concoction they use for the development of a uterus inside an alpha which enables pregnancy. It is the duty of the head of the clan to produce a successor.
