The explosion was so unnecessary, Rosa wouldve won the trial anyway and then she could return as the duke and marry Enok…she could tend to flowers and allat while enok handles the responsibilities like what
i think its so the father can finally die. bc we read that the mc's mothers friend was the one who caused it, cuz she hated him sm. so probably after finding out he was alive, she wanted a last piece of revenge. and it worked well for everyone, the duke can die while it just goes down as his last act of evil
It made more sense in the novel... For starters, it wasn't duke cardia that did it but the remaining people that followed Rosa's father in an attempt to free him and kill Theodore. The plan was obviously harebrained but it was pointed that it was to be expected as usually they followed orders blindly and without either Caligo or harion's order they were just doing whatever. In the novel, Caligo actually attempted to escape during the chaos and duke cadia following him and beat him to pulp. It was also revealed that enok/Enoch had already discovered their plan and informed the others (Vivian, duke cardia, Theodore). The only reason they let them proceed was to fake Rosa's death. And yes she would've won the trial anyway but they did this to grant her wish to live a peaceful life away from the dukedom which would've been hard to achieve otherwise.
