respectfully wtf ??? u dont like penelope ???? she was using ecles, yes, but she only did it to survive cuz lemme remind u shes in a video game. she knows that no matter what, ecles IS NOT actually in love with her but actually is obsessive and infatuated. its what hes programmed/written to be in this game. penelope is a baddie idk what ur yappin about, she survived and thrived when the odds were low soir anyways

If she knew he was effed up, why encourage it and then get all mad when he betrayed her and be obsessed with her? I mean did she or did she not try to get him to be like that with her?

In my case, it would have been better if she made a deal with him. His protection in exchange for his freedom or whatever. She knew his obsessive love, hated it yet still tried to direct it to her and get all mad abt it? The game never forced her into making him love her or any of the capture targets. She manipulated him and when she couldnt control him she threw him away.


I respect her for surviving. I dont respect her for trying to manipulate someone to love her just to guard her. And it was all for naught anyway when not once did she call him to guard her and just did everything on her own. What was the point of getting Eclis? If she wanted him out of the way, there would have been a better way without needing to make him fall for her.


I mean if you know someone is a psychopath, why associate with the psychopath? Why make it worse by making the psychopath be obsessed with you while you're disgusted by it and then get all mad and surprised when that person is interested in you?

And she acts like she doesnt know why he is like that? I mean come on girl, you conveniently 'forgot' you tried to manipulate a person when it didnt work out?

First of all this is a public comment where everyone is allowed to say what they like and dislike. Second, I agree with this persons comment. I dont hate penelope but i do hate that she manipulated a slave to be obsessed with her and then just throw him away. The worst part is that Eclise even told her what she did wrong and she just ignored him. She couldve talked things out with him and Tell him why she did what she did and that she wanted to survive, but she chose to stay silent which created more and more Problems…im on her side obviously just when it comes to Eclise i cant she really did him dirty

The whole point of survival is that it DEPENDS on the AFFECTION of the LOVE INTERESTS! She didn't even know that Eclis would turn out like that! The reason she chose Eclis as the primary target is that she felt no hope from her brothers, Crown Prince was the lunatic, and Vinter was very doubtful of her (and was supposed to be the one who'd bring Yvonne).

When she played in "normal mode", Eclis was the only one who remotely pitied the og Penelope. Of course she'd choose him! Yeah, there must have been other ways to handle her situation but she was desperate. She needed him but she had no actual powers even in her own house. So, the best thing she could do was buy him and make him her personal guard. The actions she chose were all based on "normal mode".

If he could rebel against his previous master, he could have surely rebelled against her if he wanted to. But he was curious. He saw how she was treated. He knew she was using him, and he wanted to use her too, but he got absorbed in her sweet promises even if he knew they were lies. He saw her desperation to get the heck out of there. Neither of them were sane. Neither of them were open.

Even to us readers, it was a surprise that he'd go as far as selling his people out. Do you think she should have been grateful for that? The reason she didn't choose Vinter route was because he'd bring Yvonne but what did Eclis do? He did everything she was trying to avoid. She acknowledged that she used him and apologized even if it was too late but Eclis no longer sees reason.

You can dislike her, hate her, but don't belittle her feelings.

Your reasoning is giving victim blaming to the textbook level. She literally had to "romance" someone or she would die, that's the whole point of the story. It's literally called "Death Is The Only Ending." And let's go over some of her options btw: her brother who hates her, her other brother who also hates her, and a bloodthirsty crown prince at war. At surface level, she showed Eclis bare minimum kindness and he is not owed reciprocation of any of his obsessive feelings. There is no world in which her feelings of disgust towards Eclis are invalid, because there is no world in which his actions are anything less than criminal. Also, let's not forget that Eclis wasn't revealed to be a "psychopath" until long after Penelope made her choice to romance him. She owes him nothing.

Exactly!! And let's not forget about that, she was too young when she was adopted to dukedom and duke would buy things and locks her up in her room if she causes "trouble", ofcourse she didn't lock him up, but pattern was there, she would buy him gifts.

Do you think they'll believe her if she said "oh i came from the other world and this is game and I have to play your route to survive, then he will be oh okay, let's play?" He knew that her affection were lies, but he lost the control over his mind. He betrayed his own people. Just to cover penelope and you still thinks he's innocent lamb? He did dirty to her, he knew what kind of situation she is in. He knew she can't just ran away, when he was forcing her, threatened to kill her family. Where would they go? They'd get caught and get executed. She played by the games, she grab the rope she didn't knew it was rotten until the end. He was impatient. He wanted to rush things because his desire to monopolize her. He is the reason she killed herself. If it wasn't Vinter she'd definitely die.
