I get not liking the father, but I don't understand hating or wishing pain and bad things upon him. All things considered, he did better than most people would have in his situation. It's pretty clear that the MC is biological his niece and not his daughter. And, this is speculation on my part, but the MC could very well be the result of an affair because how else would the uncle be able to get her with no one knowing. That or she needs protection from a family up rising. So after years of trauma, battles, and a curse/mental illness, he was given this secret child who was also severely sick with an illness no one could cure. And, in order to extend her life, he had to do tasks for the imperial family and an immortal being that required him to be away from home for years.
I wished he would have visited her more, too, but I get why he didn't/couldn't. He didn't have the best example of family growing up, so he probably didn't think he was that important. He probably thought that since Mehen, the person he trust the most, was there that he didn't need to worry. Additionally, depending on his tasks, he could have been extremely busy. It doesn't seem like his soldiers got a break either. It could have been very difficult to get away for a visit, especially if he was in a distant place. I need more information.
I can't imagine doing your best while not at your best and being criticized for not doing more.

They made it seem like the glory and prosperity of the Flame Hwa clan was many generations ago, but it was the time of the og Mujin's grandfather. So when they talk about an incompetent family head taking over after, they are referring to og Mujin's father. The clan was targeted because the father was much weaker and more incompetent than the grandfather. It also seems that all of the adults around the father was incompetent because they constantly fell for scams and had very weak martial arts. They were already losing money, power, battles, competitions, martial artists, allies, and businesses and yet the adults blamed the child for the clan's down fall. It seems the down fall already started a long time ago before Mujin was born. They just found it easier to blame a child, the victim, who couldn't fight back.
If I didn't love the MC and his siblings so much, I would be rooting for the MC to beat all the adults up and leave the clan. I have a feeling that if he brought the clan to prosperity again and then left, they would be right back where they started after time passed, at the bottom. They would mismanage everything again but have no one to blame.
I can't imagine how daunting the whole situation has been for the empress. She had a story you could write fairytales about, but because she hasn't given birth in the 9 years she has been married, she has to accept her husband sleeping with other women. She also has to be present and appear supportive when these women give birth?! That's enough to make anyone depressed or bitter.
The emperor could have had the decency to keep it in the palace. I understand that the pressure to have an heir and secure the throne must have been intense, but why was he outside the palace with his pants down? Messing with a woman who has many lovers when you have a beautiful wife at home is crazy. I will never understand the mentality of men and women who do that.

Maybe the baby passed the red dot test. If the baby didn't, then I honestly don't know. Even if the baby did pass, it doesn't mean that she is his. It could be one of his brothers. I can't imagine what he is thinking. I guess he wanted a baby really bad. Or he is just crazy.

No, I think they said it was artificial. A previous employer took a potion/medicine that has now caused the red dot to appear on everyone of imperial bloodline. If you are of imperial bloodline, you will have the red dot. Anyone who doesn't have it, is not of their bloodline. This is why, although he looks different from them, they all know with certainty that the ML is of imperial bloodline. When they say it's artificial, they mean the red dot appearing isn't caused naturally by their bloodline or for any divine reason. It was caused by medicine a previous emperor took. The only thing the red dot can't due is determine paternity. It can say you are an imperial member, but it give no indication of how. That's why they said the baby could be one of his brothers. Why are people hating on the ML? The MC approach him with intentions, and they both use each other. Someone said he doesn't consider how his actions will impact her, but neither does she. Let's not forget that she smacked someone in the imperial palace. She also goes around doing crazy stuff like teaching noble women to stand on horses when riding. I am not hating on the MC. She is funny. But I do think it's bias to hate the ML for doing similar things that the MC does.
It is also known that he doesn't want to get married and have children because he doesn't want to pass on curse. He has his moments, but he is not completely unreasonable.

It makes sense why he wasn't willing to help them at first. They were two hidden masters more than capable of getting themselves and everyone around them out of trouble. They just wanted to test the MC, and he wasn't going.

Things I just thought about:
She literally could have explained herself in the letter, but chose to say she hopes he never meets someone like her again. It could have been a beautiful love letter that reaffirmed her love and expressed her desire for another chance.
The little cartoon drawing shows him blocking and unblocking her several times I'm a single day. So, if she sent another message earlier, she probably would have gotten through.
She is still in contact with his niece and could have asked for her to set up a surprise meeting or to give her uncle a letter/gift.
She also could have personally sent him a letter in mail.
