Is it just me or does it seem like everybody is overly harsh on the father? Like don’t get me wrong he deserves his fair share of groveling and apologizing, and never living that down, but like the storytelling clearly sets a picture that he kill his emotions and he clearly still held a lot of resentment towards the girls mother and like I said well that doesn’t make it OK and he deserves to grovel he’s really not been that bad since he figured out that he fucked up.
Everybody preaches second chances until somebody needs to be given a second chance. lol
I definitely agree. I do not understand the standard people hold characters to. There will be fully developed characters who kidnap, abuse, and do genuinely awful things to the main character, and they still end up together in the end. The same readers will simp for the character who did all of that. But then you have a character like this one who is meant to be a good man, and suddenly he is judged more harshly, even though he could have done far worse. It just feels inconsistent.
Especially when you look at how and why everything unfolded. It was never that the father did not want to feel anything for his daughter. From the beginning of his relationship with her mother, it was obvious that he cared deeply. So yes, I understand what you mean when you say some of this falls on the mother. I can see her thought process and how she might have believed she was protecting him in some way. But at the same time, this is exactly where communication could have changed everything.
"But at the same time, this is exactly where communication could have changed everything."
If characters knew how to communicate with each other there wouldn't be fiction or drama anymore. The genres would disappear.
And I get it. Most people aren't perfect at communication. And the lifelong struggle of a committed relationship is at least partially learning more and more how to communicate better with your partner.
But damn it would be nice if at least the characters in the stories I read weren't all completely stupid
I actually blame the mother way more… she lied, hurt the father, make it appear as betrayal, disappeared, brought a child in the world knowing life would be harsh. But no one seems to criticize her (╯°Д °)╯╧╧. Had they stayed together, yes he would have been sad that she died but not traumatized. And he would be raising their kid.
Tbh I don't hate the father for not accepting her, I hate him for the way he treated a child who had nothing to do with anything her mother did to him. She was treated like she didn't exist by him and he hated her because of who her mother was like she could control who her bio parents are. Ya I get it he sealed off his emotions but that doesn't give him the right to treat an innocent child like that
That this overall scene in chapter was incredibly unnecessary like I could’ve done with kidnapping and torture maybe like a forced kiss I guess. That has to be better than this which is incredibly insensitive by the way because people read to escape reality sometimes what they’re reading isn’t always a great escape, but it’s different from their life so if you’re introducing trauma, especially trauma like this story, you should really try and do it as respectfully and there I say tastefully, if that’s even possible, as possible.
This is wildly frustrating because I really enjoyed reading this and while I will probably finish it I probably will not read another one of this authors stories because this is so utterly disgusting.
Honestly if you're down for it, you should read the novel. The artist added the rape scene and it was not in the novel. It was just kidnapping nothing sexual. The pacing is also a lot better with the romance flowing more naturally it even made me cry at times because of how pure MCs love is.
See thats so annoying to me. Why add this crap. As someone who writes I would be so angry as the author to didn’t that they did that.
I’ll definitely look into he novel. Thanks for letting me know
