I already accepted in local university. But my dad not agree about my major and its too far from my home. My dad want me to study science but i choose internasional relations and my dad really angry abt wht in going to do with my life if i choose tht major. U see there is a discrimination in my country and i belong to minor community. I know mydad worried abt me so i can releate. And there is issues about my family financial and my dad already old enough to retirement. Because of tht i thought i will get to local university instead of private univ cause its to expensive. I studied my ass of to get to that local university when my friend attend cram school and hv many material books. I dont even hv 1 books tht guide me. There is many tht i reconsider abt this thing and its made me stress i dont even eat properly. Sure i lack of motivation because my dad told me tht. and maybe there is lack communication between me and my dad. There is option i consider abt getting a job instead of attend university (too many and). But i dont think my dad will agree too. Because my dad want all of his kid become bachelor. My dad and many people expetations tht make me really confined and stress. Im still 17 year old and really not ready to step in the adulthood life. Its 4 am and there is thing to confirm in university at 8 am. Im still crying from yesterday. I dont even know wht to do again

this matter is very complicated and has various aspects, but maybe the most important thing is what YOU really want to do (you're so young though and at this age it's hard to know what one wants to do). I forced my son to study what I wanted him to study (yeah, the "what are you giong to do with your life" question) and and it was really NO good, neither for him nor for me.
You know I totally understand you. I live in the US, therefore I am still consider as a high schooler, but I still stress about what I want to major in or where I want to go for color Uni. In the US, we have financial help from the government or like FASFA and grants and there are also scholarships. If there is any scholarships you can sign up for you should, just ask any of your teachers or people who have the right informations. And if that isn't an option, the. I recommend that you start working to save up and work a part time job that works around your classes in the university you choose. Idk if I was any help but I do understand your stress and just so you know where are many other options out there that can help you, you just have to keep digging.

Usually need to work full time from 8 am to 5pm and there is night class when u attend private univ. But i sign up for local univ and it doesnt hv night class only day class. So I'm still a little confused, but first off, I'm in university and will be graduating in a year. I will be in my final year after the summer, and guess what, I am NOT READY to be an adult yet. You're never really ready.
But college is somewhat different than stepping into adulthood where you're doing a 40 hour week.
In the end, a degree is still a degree - granted where you get it from might make a difference. I say go for the scholarship - it's difficult but it's worth the investment. You have to work hard for it, no matter how difficult it may be.
Also, you won't ever really know what you want to do in life. People will tell you over and over again - that you have to pick a path. Well, pick a path that you won't hate, and one that you believe will give you the lifestyle you want (work life balance and financially wise).
I'm graduating in a year, and I'm still not sure about my major. But I'm going through with it. My friend's in the pre-med track, and she questions it sometimes. Everyone questions their decision on their major from time to time and it scares you.
But know that it doesn't necessarily limit your choices. You NEED that education, especially in our society. If you have a way to make it work, no matter how hard and how long, then do it.
Sometimes it's good to major in something that is profitable and gives you good job perspectives (especially when there're social issues, as you wrote before), and that's what probably your father thinks, and that's also what some adult or older man with so-called life experience would say. BUT - we also know that when you have a job that you hate or you do something that you don't give a damn about, you can gain nothing more than a really shitty life and regrets. So the decision is hard, especially when you're young. But you ARE young and that's wonderful - you can make a decision, see how it goes, and then change your mind eventually (if it's possible in your country). I wish you the best of luck.

Hey Chiyochi, I sympathize! I was in a similar situation with my parents too... there was a lot of screaming matches and crying. I don't know if this will help, but I think it will take a bit of the pressure off: from my experience in the US most disciplines suck anyways, and most of us will still turn out ok. The arts classes suck, the history classes suck, and the social science classes and the sciences too. And once you graduate if you can even get a job, the jobs are all terrible and dehumanizing. But you will be independent from your parents, and you will make new friends and colleagues, and you will know a lot more than you know now. So do your best for now, and try not to worry too much about the things you can't change and don't know yet.
I have the same problem, actually. My teacher used to say that if something like this happened, find a way that can benefit both sides. Though there are times where we can't find the solution. Personally, I just go along with what my parents tell me to do, though I don't really like it. But that's just me, the coward who don't want to deal with troublesome things.
What I'd like to do though, is to convince my parents. I mean, you already get in to the local university, which is awesome in itself (I'm not in local university, I lack of motivation to studying my ass off, obviously. And my parents just like, whatever, the private university is good and the major you take is good. Just make sure you get good grades.). There's many scholarship that you can get, if you tried hard enough. If you shows them that you wouldn't be a burden and can be the person who they can proudly said "that's my child", I guess it'd suffice. And about the job, I don't know how it is in your country, but in my country, sometimes it didn't matter what major you take in university, as long as you're a bachelor and can do a good job, then you can get a job that has no relation with your major. There's someone I know who works as a banker even though his major is pharmacy. The future is unknown, that much is true. But we're young, there's many things we had to learn. Parents just want the best for their children, obviously. But the future is unknown, even to your parents.
So, talk it out with your parents, tell them what you want, find the middle way in which both of you can agreed on. Don't lose your head when things go rough. Good luck!
