Most people who side with Nanjo conveniently forget that this manhwa initially had three characters, and I think that's a very important key factor.
I like Nanjo and Mok Yeon equally, and I hate them equally. Because where Mok Yeon is manipulative and abusive, Nanjo is controlling and judgmental.
Nanjo judges Mok Yeon based on essentially one encounter and then keeps acting on that judgment. He decides, without actually asking, that Sunhwa needs to be “saved,” interferes in his relationship, and sets off a chain of events that he later seems unwilling to take responsibility for.
That's what bothers me most about Nanjo: he often acts as though everything that happens between him and Mok Yeon is something that was simply done to him, as though he's a puppet or a martyr who sacrificed himself for Sunhwa. But he made choices too. He chose to interfere. He chose to sleep with Mok Yeon. He chose to keep seeing him. He chose to avoid Sunhwa and lie to him. And when Mok Yeon kisses him and he kisses him back, he still manages to make Mok Yeon the sole source of the problem.
I'm not saying Mok Yeon is innocent. He absolutely isn't. He's manipulative, abusive, emotionally unstable, and responsible for plenty of the damage he causes. I'm not even saying people aren't allowed to hate him.
What I'm asking is: why does Nanjo get a moral exemption?
Sunhwa even says something revealing about Nanjo: he wasn't initially attracted to men, and yet he allows himself to be swept along by other people. Even his sexuality seems to become something he doesn't fully take ownership of. That doesn't make him evil, but it does tell us something important about how he makes choices.
And I think that's the point people keep missing: Mok Yeon's behavior is much easier to condemn because we actually get to see what's going on inside his head. Nanjo hides his dysfunction better, so people interpret his choices more generously.
You don't have to forgive Mok Yeon to acknowledge Nanjo's responsibility.
Hate Mok Yeon if you want. I certainly understand why people do.
But if we're going to judge these characters, let's judge both of them as people who make choices, rather than treating Nanjo as an innocent bystander to a disaster that he repeatedly helped create.

I agree, they're both psycho and they both suck. Mok is pathetic though, and Nanjo is so hot with his sleeveless shirt and unkempt hair. Lol
