What’s so funny about the moment in the cafe in chapter 8? What am I missing?
the officials translated that badly, read the bingsoo version for a better TL!
the joke is that Jigu accidentally says "the receipt you have ordered is ready" when he meant to say "the food you have ordered is ready" then the receipt comes out lol. (the punchline works better in korean because the sentence structure is reversed)
They mention a bear gallbladder. This is likely a reference to the extraction of bile from sun bears, which is believed to have medicinal properties despite evidence suggesting otherwise. I am not one to knock traditional medicine, except in cases like this: they shove tubes down the throats of sun bears and extract the bile from them. It’s very inhumane, and eventually, after experiencing this torture continually, the bear dies from it.
This relates to palm oil. Palm oil is almost unavoidable, just look up all the names it goes by and look at the products you own. It goes beyond food, even products like shampoos use it. Probably at least a quarter of the processed foods you consume includes it. They cut down forests to grow palm plantations, and palm happens to be sun bears’ favorite food. The sun bears, homeless and hungry, go to these plantations, their former homes filled with their favorite food, where they are captured and sold to the bile trade and the illegal pet trade; either way, their lives from then on will be full of abuse, and they will suffer a lonely death.
According to novel updates, the novel is completed in Korean (142 chapters plus 5 side-story chapters), but from what I can tell, there are no English translations.
According to manga updates, there are 25 chapters of the comic, but it seems to just be in Korean.
So, good news is that the comic is currently in production and the novel is finished. Bad news is that none of it except the first chapter of the comic is translated.

There’s a few things I think are important to note:
1. You can read this on webtoon
2. It is *really* uncomfortable at first
3. This only took me 3 hours to complete, while sleep-deprived
4. My actual review: I really enjoy reading stories that are shorter, that aren’t afraid to draw out the ending. I enjoyed reading it, although I don’t know exactly how I feel about the ending. Not that it was bad or anything, I’m just sleep-deprived and already have difficulty knowing my own emotions. It did capture my attention enough that I finished it instead of falling back to sleep, which was my original goal.
*going back to sleep. Messed up my grammar lol
