I think he's still in collage. As far as i know Korean people can complete their mandatory military service while in academic leave (during collage).
For sure he's still on college but think it's been just a little longer than 2 years just bc military alone is 2 years and he's gotten settled in an apartment, and stuff so maybe closer to 3 years you're right though, I think a lot of guys do it in their college years
