He is almost right Hanie actually is indeed a experiment however since he was the only survivor he is the original fiance but even after surviving all the experiments some time passed and he didn't become a omega change in plans the lab director put one of his sons to pass as a omega and the prince wouldn't know since omegas who take their meds shouldn't be able to sense alphas and vice versa
Hanie was taken to the palace with the "fiance" so that he could keep taking the drugs to change himself into a omega the lab is trying to see if his close proximity to an alpha helps developing it
Prince feels that he needs to distance himself because the lab people is shady but he also cares for him and is falling for him
