This manga was kind of cute until it was revealed that the seme was an adult the entire time and fell in love with the uke when he was just a lil kid

This has some of the best artwork I've seen in BL, though I’m not exactly sure how to feel about this one.
The entire story hinges on the fact that Akamine raped Utsumi in the past. Akamine doesn't even remember it, which doesn’t excuse what he did, but it feels cruel for Utsumi to continue enacting his revenge against him. Utsumi manipulates Akamine in a series of events that gets Akamine fired. Turns out Akamine’s unrequited love is also in on it. In the end, it’s revealed that, aside from Akamine raping him, a lot of Utsumi’s anger is due to the fact that he was in love with Akamine, but Akamine was in love with someone who didn’t return his feelings and even betrayed him, and Utsumi wanted to free Akamine from that pain (???). Akamine acknowledges that he’s a horrible person and accepts the bad things that happen to him. He realizes that he's actually the one who's been hurting Utsumi all along (???).
Also, in the past, Akamine is shown to be violent when he's drunk, such as forcing himself onto Utsumi, yet this violent side of him never appears again in the present, nor does he even try to remember. He spends more time ruminating about how his life is a culmination of mistakes, and at worst he’s an awful boss and is possessive towards his former love. Utsumi himself is actually even more violent than Akamine is. Which is why it’s a little baffling to me how Utsumi is portrayed as the more sympathetic character.
TL;DR Uke violently raped seme in the past and forgets about him. Seme decides to make his life a living hell. They get together in the end because they realize how lonely they both are. I suppose it's silly to point out red flags in a psychological manga that begins with rape as retribution, but still.
