This is actually the EXACT OPPOSITE of what a good dom would do, this is fucking horrible.
Kink educator here! I 100% agree that this isn't a well negotiated scene in a real world context. And I'm happy to educate anyone who is curious or wants to understand healthy negotiation/ consent-forward practices in irl kink. But for a sexy fictional comic that shows the characters having a good time and checking in with themselves and their limits, I don't think this is horrible at all. I actually think this series does a really great job straddling the line between realism and fantasy.
Totally get if this series isn't your thing or if that scene made you uncomfortable. I just wanted to differentiate between a good Dom in the real world and a good Dom in a horny fictional story and acknowledge how they can be different.
Hi! I am one such curious person who'd like to better understand how to better approach healthy communication and negotiation when it comes to things like this. I already have a pretty decent idea thanks to lots and lots of research, but new advice and perspectives can only teach me more and id love to talk about this if its ok with you!
For real.
Everything just feels so off. I mean I feel like the Dom is taking advantage of the submissiveness of the sub. I mean, he has all the means to talk shit while the sub all gagged and roped can't even explain himself properly.
Like how are they gonna be able to reach a better conclusion?
And the sub is having like a blind attachment to the Dom, which the Dom is using to "punish".
I mean....this is the feels I am getting.
I really couldn't enjoy this time thinking that the sub really doesn't have any fault here and the Dom is just basically being all jealous over something he could've just clarified by speaking sincerely, no need for all this punishment and stuff.
For sure! You're absolutely allowed to be annoyed and uncomfortable about how something is portrayed. If this series isn't your thing, you can express those feelings, step away from reading, and try to point people in the direction of actual bdsm educational content so they know where to find it. All those things are okay.
I just wanted to give people a frame of reference so those who want to know what healthy BDSM looks like while still enjoying this story, even if it isn't healthy, can do so. Multiple things can be true at once. This story can be fictional/ not a reflection of real world and you can still be uncomfortable with what it's portraying. This story can depict unhealthy moments in bdsm and still be something readers can have fun enjoying. All of those things can be and are coexisting.
I get that the title being "guidebook to bdsm" without the series actually being a genuine guidebook to bdsm may feel frustrating to some readers. But it didn't claim to actually be a guidebook to bdsm for real life people to use. That's like reading the manga Marmalade Boy and feeling frustrated that the ML isn't a sentient jar of marmalade. Like, you can totally feel that way and I respect it but that more confirms that the series just isn't what you wanted it to be than the series is bad/ wrong. I just think if you're wanting people to be able to learn about BDSM from a fictional comic as their only point of reference instead of as a jumping off point/ a bit of kinky fun to fuel a fantasy, that may be an unfair expectation you're putting on the author. That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to feel annoyed or unhappy, it just means that this series probably isn't for you and that's okay.

What a fucking plot twist holy shit
