Yes, Durant (the current Emperor) who is a young boy in the flashback, his dad (who we see smothering his own father) has a sister and that is Rahman/Shahid's mother. The goal was to murder Shahid, but his mother told him to hide under the bed and she put up a fight, so the men killed her out of anger for her resistant. Once they killed her they came and found Shahid, who was hiding under thhe bed and he killed several men and soon after backup arrived.
