In my opinion, the little boy told Kouji-san that he was going to the police station before go back home but he never really planned to go, he simply ran away alone because if Kouji-san knew about it he surely tried to stop him. The boy behaviour all along the manga is so egoistic and self-centered, he only thinks about himself and because of him kouji was caught :(
That's true. I help feel that it real Jun's fault that Kouji got caught. I still liked the story and all, but really wished it was a happier ending for Kouji.
