I'm not surprised with how unhinged he is given the circumstances, It hasn't been 100% made clear but It's pretty obvious the dude keeps dying and the apocalypse starts over, but the guy with the sliced throat doesn't die so he keeps finding him and trying to keep this guy alive but he keeps dying over and over again who knows how many times. The dude's probably lost a few screws in his head by now understandably
