Pretty well done comic versions but I highly recommend reading the novel. The character and plot developments are much more nuanced, but this is definitely one of the better done comic versions of a novel that I have read. They are doing a pretty good job of condensing the story without too many holes however they have taken quite a bit of creative liberty with the character of Jun Wu Yao. I won't give specifics other than to say he doesn't show up nearly as much at the start of the novel following Jun Wu Xie's initial recovery. Because of this, you get to really dive into why Jun Wu Xie is such a badass and her unique way of looking at the world.
The seal of the EMPRESS!! Why in the world would that have been given to your fl? I know they were using it as a literary device to "free" Melly, but why that!? It not only ruins whatever plot you have moving forward but simultaneously negates your character's motivations and the whole backstory! This women was given a sign of imperial authority that actually has REAL power attached to it! And it was given to her when she is not related in any way to the emperor that would give him control over her. She is in fact married to the emperor's political opponent. He has to be the opponent because anyone who publicly declares that they will make their mistress the empress is committing TREASON! Furthermore the emperor then went and married the man off to someone that wasn't the mistress. The fl has to the emperors political ally to be given that ring. She is married to this man to prevent him from gaining political allies that can oppose the emperor. Furthermore the emperor is off on the BATTLEFIELD right now while his political opponent is sitting in the capital! This women's number 1 goal right now should be to actively gaurd against any coup her husband could be planning!
