So, since this hasn't been done yet, I decided I'd try to post a brief summary of what happened in chapter 40. Just a warning: this may not be entirely correct and there are some parts I don't understand, but I'll do my best. ^-^ If someone could post a better summary or a translation later, that'd be great too!

The chapter starts off with Lucaon yelling Kyon's name as he runs outside towards his body. Rain asks Cecilia what happened and begs her to help. Meanwhile, Ryan stares on sort of creepily and it almost looks like he's smirking. Lucaon, however, appears completely shocked.

The next scene is Kyon lying unconscious on a bed inside the mansion with Cecilia apparently trying to heal his wounds. Lucaon asks if Kyon is okay and stands there wondering why he would do such a thing. Ryan then tells him to leave so he and Cecilia can handle things together. Lucaon walks away, allowing the two to talk privately. This is when Ryan tells Cecilia to erase the mark on Kyon's neck, saying he won't be needing it anymore and it seems he also remarks that he should have gotten rid of Kyon much earlier (or something along those lines, I believe that's what he says?). Ryan mentions that when Lucaon heard about what Kyon did, he looked frightened and there was no way he could stop Lucaon from going out there. Next come a few pages that show Lucaon questioning Cecilia about her + her servant's involvement and why she doesn't have much to say about the situation. Cecilia makes up a bunch of excuses and brings up the previous attack on the mansion.

Eventually, Kyon wakes up and complains that his head is spinning. Ryan explains the situation to him and tells him that he should be more careful because Lucaon had also found his body by the lake. Lucaon then enters the room and they have a sweet moment where Lucaon puts his hand on Kyon's and says that as long as he's here, Kyon will be too. (It's also worth noting that it appears that the mark on his neck is actually gone, so Cecilia really must have removed it, but Lucaon doesn't seem to say anything about it being missing??)

Kyon then talks to Cecilia alone and says that he knows he must leave, but can't bring himself to do so. Cecilia urges him to go, saying it would be dangerous if he didn't. They have a conversation that I don't understand and the next scene shows several new servants/hunters that will be staying there from then on. Cecilia assures Lucaon that more will come later and that they will do a good job. However, Lucaon says something about wanting to move to the city for a while because he and Kyon will be safe there.

There's a cute scene where Rain is trying to spoon feed poor Kyon, but he instead gets up and begins packing his suitcase again. He thinks about leaving the mansion and asking Ryan to find him a place to live. In a hurry to leave, Kyon knocks over a folder containing the family pictures he found of Lucaon a long time ago and the chapter ends with that.
