tbh I wouldn't mind to give them a penny or 2, i'd pay to get my absolute fave manga/dj translated, because i know for sure my country is against lgbt so anything of its content won't be released here. Also, I'd also buy the original stuff.

it used to be very common that i'd see scanlation teams requesting donations so they can purchase the physical copies to scan and commissioned translations were also very common. i think a lot of people don't nowadays because it's extremely simple to find scans online, but there's still some groups that request donations. i can see why it'd be disrespectful to the creators of the works, but i also understand scanlators requesting donations so they can continue scanlating works

Exactly. Some people get sad and shit when translation of a manga stopped, usually they stop because 1. Either it's not fun anymore 2. irl shits 3. Disrespect and harassment I'm just saying i also understand why they ask for money. It's always a plus if you can get money from doing your hobby

This is just a what if scenario, I'm all for supporting artists, but let's get real here, if we talk about things to be disrespectful, scanlation business IS disrespectful. If we want to be saints, all of us wouldn't be on mangago or other online reading sites.
I understand if they ask for pennies, raws aren't free, coffees aren't free, site servers aren't free. Imo, they at least deserve something whether it's just a dollar, a praise, or even a mention.

patreon directly helps the artist survive. it's a good thing to do, and it costs as little a a buck a month.
