No one really knows if this story gonna have a sad ending tbh. BWAT's stories are all original and there's no novels if they're talking about their other works like Tale of the Yellow Dragon then that's probably it

As @Dark said. BWAT does originals so there really isn't a source material for anybody to declare this a sad ending unless BWAT mentioned it ahead of time which I haven't seen anywhere.
That being said, I wouldn't totally rule it out coz you never know.
