The chapter before the very last would have been a SPLENDID ENDING!!! Their love story ending so tragically yet so poetically. He would've finally understood how precious life was and she finally understood what it was like to LIVE. But then...the actual last chapter??? They were apart for decades??? And no one told him, she didn't reach out, they didn't cross paths? All that "melancholic lonely samurai" persona he took on makes no sense now The other knowing characters actually made Shinpei look stupid for going around as he was. It's a slap in the face.
This feels like an "appease the audience" ending. But it would've went down as pure PEAK if she had passed on (although it's unfortunate to say) and he had become a wandering master.
