Lots of artists do that simply because they’re unable to draw only animal ears without it looking odd. It looks odd when the human ears are missing. And adding extra hair to cover up the space can make it look weird too. As well as in my opinion- placing the animal ears right where the human ears are makes it look even more odd. That’s what playboy beast looks like to me tbh. The ears make it look like the characters are like monkeys instead of cat-types.
All of the Kuroneko Kareshi series plus spin offs, & Ai o Ataeru Kemonotachi are the ones with either a pair of human ears in their human forms or animal ears during mid transformation(๑•ㅂ•)و✧
