I feel like it had serious dept, and the author made it clear, the ML is finely made out. He came from an asshole to somebody who was actually truly changing not emediately but surely. He acknowledged he could have just been trying to feel better by thinking he was being curse that's why he's so shitty to Edith. But then again he's been fighting it and thinking for her, I love his self awareness later on.
