Its an allegory to trauma recovery. Just because its forgotten doesnt mean she's truly moved on. She essentially coped by separating the unloved and traumatized version of herself and viewed it as "not her" so she can look away and forget but now that she's forced to recognize and face the past instead of compartmentalizing she cant cope anymore.
It definitely hurts when wanting an explanation, an apology, anything to how she was treated in the past only for the emperor to just push it aside and say "so what? Youre happy now right?" Like past abuse isnt still abuse and has lingering affects. Its so gaslighty and just a really shitty sentiment.
I also enjoy how she comes to hate herself upon this process. She's so cruel to herself but isnt that realistic? Blaming and hating herself for not being loveable and instead of being a child who dreamed of love she thinks its better to wish for the end of her suffering. She has no where else to push that anger and suffering towards even if its unfair bc, other than the abuser, theres no one more cruel to a victim than themselves.

The novel prob did a better job at explaining the emotions and turmoil and this was probably rushed for most likely corporate reasons but if we had maybe 15-ish more chapters it'd be sook much more fleshed out cause the artist put so much effort into it Does anyone have links to the novel? The novels span like 214 chapters so Yeah this was rushed.
I was hoping we'd see more of Lux's inner self and how he bonded with Mikhail since that felt super rushed. Also the way Lux realized that he put Carlos in the worst situation due to the fact that not only was he NOT Mikhail but also looked like him. Like that mix of disappointment at a substitute which. Man. I feel so bad for Carlos. He wasn't supposed to live originally but without him living Mikhail wouldn't exist. I was lowkey hoping something would happen to Mikhail too since that'd make Lux's redemption a little more satisfying since the shock and panic he felt thinking he might lose Mikhail was nice. Like, I think Lux SHOULD lose something. It wasn't until the last like 3 chapters did he stop brushing off emotions and I like seeing characters suffer. There was probably more to how everyone felt too but for whatever reason they only did 60 chapters. Rip ig please pray for side stories
