That literally never happens, Ilic never tells him "I love you" or anything close to it, absolutely zero.
It hurts
Even though Sayan treated Illic better (excluding the sexual activity) later, but Illic still felt like trapped and always wanted to be free. So, yeah it's bittersweet ending. Because Illic never loved Sayan, it's only dependency and Sayan would never got Illic's heart despite trying so hard to please Illic.
