Unfortunately in the novel, Giseok is a r*pist. You don’t want that man. He r*ped Chaewoo’s adoptive mother/kidnapper, Yoon Juha. She got pregnant from that and Giseok decided to see if Juha (who was locked in a basement under Chaewoo’s room) would fight for her life now that she’s pregnant with their child. She was being starved while held captive and Giseok told her that if Chaewoo played his cello again, he would let her eat. He wanted to see if she would beg him after she finds out that she’s pregnant. But she didn’t beg and dies of starvation in the end.

ummm are you sure because no where in the novel did it say she was pregnant, from what i remember it said that he was mad that she would never bear his child but that doesn’t mean she was pregnant or raped her but i could be wrong.

I’m pretty sure bcs i did remember it was in “Chapter 13: The Boy with a Song” at the scene where Giseok told Iyeon how Juha died. It was his internal monologue. He only told Iyeon the part where Juha died of starvation because Chaewoo refused to play his cello again because he thought Juha had already died and lost interest in it. Giseok basically tried to blame Chaewoo for being Juha’s cause of death.

The novel did actually explicitly state that she was raped and was pregnant with his child. (well in the official translation that is) if you read the unofficial version, it makes sense if you weren’t aware about the pregnancy considering how confusing the translation can be and it didn’t include all of the details that the official version had.

I read the unofficial tl first (not aware about her being pregnant) so back when I was rereading the novel through the official tl and trust I was genuinely flabbergasted to learn about the rape and her being left pregnant just for him to let her starve to death in the basement … But also if you’d want I can get a couple of excerpts from the official translation where it directly says her being raped and stuff.

I don’t know what to tell you But I remember it IS in the novel. I’ve read it several times and I wish i can share the screenshot of the part where it mentioned it in the novel here but someone has summarised it in novelupdates if you want to see it :)
