Pls Tell me I'm not the only one who doesn't like Kim Dan that much I just can't stand him
EDIT2: You know I only dislike FICTIONAL CHARACTERS? I'm not doing anything wrong, I just don't like them. You can like them however you want. I didn't think it would cause such a stir, yes, I'm still reading it because I'm curious how the story will unfold.
EDIT: People, I don't like Jaekyung either. I'm not excusing him or supporting his actions. I'm just saying that Dan annoys me a bit—he's just not my type of character, calm down a bit
It’s fine not to like either of the characters, people are just being unhinged! It’s more realistic for people to not always get attached or even connect with every character in a story. And just because the characters aren’t to your taste, doesn’t mean that the story isn’t interesting enough to want to see how it goes.
How about a civilized discussion? I respect that someone might like him and I have no problem with that. I only wrote that I didn't like him, and people got pissed off as if I'd committed the greatest crime. I was curious if anyone here shared my opinion, and people can't stand the fact that someone might not like a fictional character. I don't want a medal, at first I didn't even want to have long discussions because it seemed to me that most people could accept character preferences without being mean. There is a difference between saying "I like him, but I understand that you might not like him" and taking your frustration out on me
I know the author is still developing the plot and that's why I'm still here because the action is constantly moving. I literally wrote that I'm here for the story and its progression, not the characters. I feel like everyone understood this as me hating the characters and hating the plot and generally hating everything. That's not the case, and I've said it many times.
They mad because you don't hate the right character lmaoooo if you screamed about how much you hated Jjk, I think it might have being fine. All this coz you don't share the same opinion xD also, I understand ppl can hate jjk/dan, the difference between you and them is that you did explain it very good, no insults, just chilling...
bc there is literally no possible way to hate or not like him, he got dragged into this and is practically suffering bc of everything around him. he's not even a bad character, he's just a character trying to live day to day there is literally no reason to hate him.
everything has a right to be wrong but still there's no reason to not hate him.
Civilized discussion? Where do you think this is huh? United Nations? The Hague? Kekeke, a civilised discussion is a luxury here. That aside,
Ppl like Kim Dan bc he is gentle, kind, pretty and despite the fact that he can be a pushover, he stands up for himself when he needs to. Although he drinks, smokes and signed up for that horrible contact w Jaekyung, he did it for his granny, the only family he has. Ntm that lady has been with him for all the highs and lows, and if that lady goes, then he loses the only comforting presence in his life. He's flawed but despite that he perserveres.
It's a mix of all the good things and bad things that makes him a beloved character among readers.
Now tell me why do you not like Dan?
I'm curious to see how the story unfolds. I'm simply reading in my free time, and even though I don't like the characters, I'm curious to see how their fates will unfold and whether I might change my mind. If I hated everything, I wouldn't have read this book because it would truly be a waste of time. I have a lot of books where I don't like the characters, but I'm curious, so I read them. I don't know how I can explain it better
Well, a few people were able to write in a normal, respectful, and non-hateful manner. Just because many people write in a rude manner doesn't mean civilized conversations are forbidden.
I don't like Kim Dan because I don't like characters whose main character trait is that they have a bad and sad life. I feel like, because of all the misfortunes in Dan's life, he has little personality. Of course, I understand that life's problems can be overwhelming, and I truly feel sorry for him. Still, he's not my type of character. I know you might say now that I shouldn't read the story, etc. but I don't think it's a bad story. I'm curious about the characters' fates, even though I simply prefer a different type of character, I like it when there is balance in the characters, where the character, despite difficult moments, does not lose character and it does not come down to the fact that we should all feel sorry for them. Still, I understand that many people like Kim Dan, I just don't. These are just my personal feelings and preferences.
Idk man, imo Kim Dan is a character foil to Jaekyung's character. The way Jaekyung became rugged, harsh and arrogant due to his life circumstances, Dan became nervous, benign and docile.
Keep in mind, Dan never wanted to sell his body, but given his circumstances, ntm he was blacklisted in every hospital in Seoul bc of a shitty doctor. This was his last resort. He has no choice but to let go of his pride in that regard. It's easier to say that you'll keep your personality and pride in rough and turbulent times, but when the worst comes to happen, will you be able to keep up that talk???
Like I said, despite everything he went through pre S1 and S1, he comes to his senses, drops all his ties to Jaekyung and leaves with his grandmother. Isn't that someone who stays in character? It doesn't matter if you feel sorry for Kim Dan, he'll find a way to live on as along as his grandmother is alive.
The main point is although Jaekyung and Kim Dan have drastically different personalities from their upbringing, they both have one thing in common:
They don't want to be alone.
And we're to see how they'll heal through the trauma they both went through and work towards making each other the best versions of themselves.
I think you're right in your comment and I agree with that even though I'm not a fan of such characters. I know that Kim Dan had no choice, was desperate and distraught, afraid of losing his grandmother who is everything to him. I still think that unfortunately his main characteristic is that he just has a bad life, but who knows, maybe later chapters will make me like him.
I've written about this before, but honestly, the best solution for both of them would be therapy. I hope they don't end up together in a 'healthy relationship' without working through this. I feel like after all the things that happened between them, there's no way a healthy relationship can be built with just "I'm sorry." Even if I don't like these characters, I hope their fates turn out well.
Thank you for the nice exchange of messages, even though our opinions are really different, I appreciate that you gave actual arguments without swearing etc. (of course, if you want to exchange views further, I'm willing)
No dignity??? My guy was fighting for his lifeeee, trying to get that cash to save his grandma, had loan sharks hounding at his tail AND he was blacklisted from every hospital in Seoul, no wonder he sold his body for it, there was no place for dignity in the first place I'd like to see you find a better way to save the only person you love
no honestly you explained it very well, i do hope you like the book in the end cause i honestly kinda have like high hopes but also not so like in the middle i think... but i do hope you come to like the book and the characters in the end.
also i sincerely apologize for acting like an asshole... it was so out of pocket and i was just in a bad mood so I'm sorry.

I remember playing a game with a similar plot, two friends returned and locked in one room, they have to decide whether to do creepy tasks or sexual tasks
and you have to decide what they should do, etc
Room no. 9
