i always giggle a little whenever i read rowan and joy because it reminds me of pokémon lol
they would be the perfect vers couple but i don’t think my dreams will be realised
right, we need more vers representation please.. i feel like i’m going insane..
i’m still on side story 9 but i have to say, the parents and the brother are truly the villains of the story
first the brother fakes (or at least exaggerates) an illness to get out of his duty and dumps everything onto his YOUNGER brother. the parents don’t even pay proper attention to ruan and focus on the brother instead. and while yes, it is important to take care of someone who’s sick and i don’t doubt that living with asthama was probably hellish and maybe it was better to give up being the heir, i cannot forgive ruan’s parents for being so fucking neglectful.
they see their child rebelling because he’s under immense stress and realise that they haven’t been paying attention to him AND DONT EVEN APOLOGISE???? i don’t feel an ounce of love in the relationship tbh- they just see that he’s being neglectful and ship him off to make it someone else’s problem
its amazing that the author managed to make a character that is not outright abusive but is still so awful- in any other story this would inspire a revenge arc lmao
also i would not be surprised if the father sent the head butler away on purpose to sabotage ruan’s chances of finding cloden
i hate that you’re not taking care of yourself so im going to use physical violence to scare you and then take away you’re bodily autonomy and rape you, it’s for your own good!
and you’re going to forgive me anyway because you’re deeply unstable and highly dependent on me for your emotional needs and are too blinded by guilt to realise what i’m doing is abuse!!!!!
