So I read some spoilers on novel updated, below I write my own comment plus one from the account G333 (she wrote some valid points on the whole plot).
SPOILERS
So MC shitty mother (exiled her in one of the worst kingdoms pretty much alone cutting her off from all of her loved ones and literally GAVE HER FUCKING POISON, you know, in case she felt like dying as all loving mothers do, is just forgiven and ZERO consequences from anybody, no her son the emperor, the MC, the ML or anyone else. God, I'm raging right now. I tough this was some kind of revenge story, but not really. Most of the characters were used and abused by the parents, but all the parents got a conseuqences free life, they weren't even blamed.
And seriously, fuck her mother.
MC is not a strong protagonist, she's a fffff PUSHOVER, typical stupid martyr idolised in Asian cultures, no ambition or other aspirations but lay down and let everyone walk over her

Now, the way more rational comment from G333:
"That said, the discussion surrounding why the Widowed Empress was left "off the hook" by the author got me thinking of all those stories and K-dramas where shitty parents are given, at most, a slap on the wrist (sometimes not even that) for their bad deed against their kids. And I think this boils down to a BIG cultural clash.
While we see these bad deeds (sometimes even straight-up crimes) as unhealthy and unjust, and therefore, we don't want them to go unpunished, the authors' culture (Confucianism being a big part of Korean culture) would play a significant role in how they write these toxic parents and how they handle their destinies.
Basically, Filial Piety (the virtue of exhibiting the proper love and respect for one's parents, elders, and ancestors, which is emphasized in Korea) tends to overshadow the parents' misdeeds and make the children forgive them without even resolving the issues in the first place. In Korea, the expression "Neri Sarang" (descending love), preaches that "love is something pure and imparted from parents down to their children, not the other way around." So it becomes the children's duty always to honor their parents.
If we take this story, for example:
We never see Karl reset his father (even though he is the catalyst of a lot of things) or his mothers (bio and stepmom) even though one abandoned him and the other abused him.
Elizabeth acknowledges her mother was wrong in the way she treated Karl, but we never get a sense of anger towards her, and she doesn't even think about resenting her dad (who slept with a maid and decided his daughter wasn't good enough to sit on the throne because of her gender!).
Even Diane and Lennox, who were raised by Duke D, never question or resent him, even though they know they are being used as tools for him. Karl is the same too.
Lucio disagrees with how his mother sent Adel away, but he doesn't cut off contact with her or anything.
Adel doesn't resent her mother even though she exiled her simply because they differ in their opinions regarding the tower's situation (and the story itself proves Adel was right in that).
Of course, this is just my two cents (as I am not actually Korean)!"
Yup true. In asian countries parents would do anything and say anything to their kids without thinking how would the child feel. Thats the way it is. They think they are privileged to do so because they have given birth to us. Also sons always receive everything more than the daughters and also always forgiven but daughters are held accountable even for a small mistake. Thats the norm here. Im not korean but i think every asian parents mentality is this way.
I understand what you mean as a cultural difference, but to read that in a novel makes me want to pull out all my hair in frustration (especially as I hoped it would be similar to "The abandoned empress" a revenge story, not one where another abuse victim is the evil one but all those that started this mess get to live a happy life ( ̄へ ̄)
I'm only at like, 5 chapter? And the poor mc is eating shit from everyone. And the ML (blonde haired guy?) Is insufferable. Will the story get better? I'm tired of plots with 95% suffering And the final 2 chapters being the happy end.
It is, i recommend continuing. Also ML is someone else. It's Parvel. I'd say while the story is angsty, it's not very heavy. There are some moments in the story where you can breath easy and laugh. It's not melodramatic either so you won't be in constant sadness/anger while reading the story. Cus i think i sorta get you??? Just angst and nothing else can get frustrating and tiring. Stigmata isn't like that which is why i love it so much.
Pavel, the one with the black hair guy
is the ML btw...

Shion will reincarnate in Siennas' body(the blondie) later on... As of now, I'm still 50/50 whether Pavel is really a backstabber or it's just OG!Siennas spouting poison on Shion's mind (since we also found out that it seems OG!Siennas has a thing for Pavel, could've been part jealousy too)... And even back then and now, these mfs really loves to make Pavel as a scapegoat, and we've only seen Shion in despair thinking of these things (although I'll remind you that this is a theory drawn out based only on the manhwa)
SPOILER
Yeah, I read up to 35 chapters and think pretty much the same, for what we know in past life Pavel could have been incapacitated or dead or trying to save MC, the only proof that he betrayed MC is what that shithead said :P at least the drama is reasonable with the facts and not the usual toxic yaoi stuff (I'm looking at you, Jinx and Paper flower)
Another dumb plot
Fun hater. Go somewhere else and hate, you hater
