I do understand that they do not have the "best" of morality, but that is not an excuse to say they are "people".
They are people (human) regardless of your opinion of them or their morality. This is kind of the mentality of someone who'll excuse genocide because they consider said humans as lesser than them. A difference of their world view or morality doesn't excuse that.
This is not to defend the translator, I just find OP's way of thinking dangerous in the bigger world.

It was really relatable to a certain point. I wonder if it's based off of a real story. I want to talk to her. I was planning something similar for my father at one point. Of course I'm not considering it anymore, and haven't for years, but it weighs on me a lot
