I'm curious too. It's certain he's with an official organization, from what it seems in the story, but WHICH one I have no clue. And I'm not american so I can only guess the basics thrown around in fiction (FBI, CIA, etc.).

Just reread ch 55 but there was nothing that confirmed he's a CIA agent he was just in a cop's uniform but yeah i feel like he's also an agent but what makes me retreat from that theory is that one of his dialogues is "would you accept me if yk who i rly am" smth along those lines which is confusing cus i think shin would like it better if he wasn't a dr*g dealer

That sentence is likely in reference to him not only lying about right about anything, really, but also being someone that has a factually dangerous job that requires him being away all the time. Which is likely NOT a nice aspect for a lover.
I imagine Jake got hurt before, hence why he doesn't expect people to be with him or on his side, that explains his baffled reaction when our lovely bean told him he'd be his getaway driver if he ever wanted to leave the gang. He had a strong reaction to that.

Aside from that, things like him needing to kill people for jis mission to keep things safe and secret might also be part of that sentence he dropped. We all know official agencies are NOT as peachy rosy as they tell us to. The will off someone for knowing too much, even if the person is not per se bad in any way.
There is plenty of dirt in official agencies. Maybe Jake (if that even is his real name, which I doubt) might actually be the dog that does the dirty jobs. His personality being so uncaring and him being so merciless (the irony) would really match that well.

Sorry I just checked and it’s ch.58. There Jake first says something like “us spies..” and then later on “ he’d be relived to learn I’m not a gang member”. And also in that whole chapter they talk about their plan to get all those gang members to jail and so on. So this pretty much confirms that Jake works for the government

in chapter 58, there is a whole ass sign next to rolfe (the boss woman) that says she is the associate director of the CIA. there are literal chapters of jake, ceasar, rolfe, and that other white hair guy with classified information files having meetings about their next move and how they'll take down all the gangs. there is also an actual panel of jake in the past on some mission in his cia gear. what more does the author need to drop for you to believe it lol
