There religious narrative is less about Catholicism specifically but about a Christian cult. You don’t need to understand Catholicism to understand the story imo. Just know that because it’s a Christian cult, (based on this particular latest chapter) it has a mashed-up doctrine that borrows from Catholic traditions (altar boys that help the priest with mass and the statue of Virgin Mary) as well as Protestantism (a preacher, the grey-haired guy, arbitrarily speaking to the congregation his own interpretation of the bible etc.) Protestantism is different from Catholicism. That’s all I can say for now. Whether or not you have intimate knowledge of Christian denominations shouldn’t really affect how you understand the story imo. Also I suggested rereading it the story slower. You might understand better if you just reread it lol .
