In the novel they do wind up having kids via artifical insemination and some other woo-woo science. Our wolf boy here carries them if I remember correctly cause he doesn't want the puppy to be in pain.

iirc YCY is not the one that carries, though he really did want to. They both went through the process, just that the first one it worked for was our puppy lol
