So I don’t know what’s going on between the uploader and some reviewers but the story is amazing. If you’re wondering whether to read it or not, don’t base your decision on the reviews. The story is super good so far, kind of like Haikyuu but with different challenges and motivations.

Pls don’t forget anything anymore .

Also, is this really confusing to some people? It’s not an easy story to keep up with, but confusing??? It’s super good and complex, that’s what makes it a masterpiece

The main focus of the story is Sylhan regaining his memories and surviving being a slave in the house of Glenburg while Gjord is going around killing any of nobles and politicians that had a hand of turning Sylhan into a slave with the ultimate goal of returning the title Ruler of Khalhalk back to Sylhan. I summarized the main plot and there's a few spoilers just in case.

The story can get difficult to follow since the main perspective we get is Sylhan who has unreliable memories and has difficult discerning hallucinations from memories or real life.

The story up till now is that Sylhan is a "slave" in the house of Glenburg as a deal between Gjord and Lysbeth. Lysbeth would protect Sylhan...possibly from political retaliation from the current ruler of Khalhalk in exchange for Gjord surpressing the civil war in Alto. Technically Lysbeth was sending Gjord to his death, but unfortunately Gjord is more than a capable knight despite his low birth status. Sylhan was only to be a slave in apperance but Lister treats him like an actual slave because of his one sided obsession for Sylhan and lowkey inferiority complex due to not being as capable of a knight compared to his sister. While Lysbeth is "protecting" Sylhan she's treating his mania, but is purposefully giving him medication that will cause memory loss so he'll forget everything from the past 2 years and the real perpetrators who helped install the current ruler. Her actual aim is to protect Lister becuase he's the main reason why Sylhan is in this situation.

When Gjord reunites with Sylhan 2 years later he is slowly plotting to return the title of ruler back to Sylhan. Before the events of the story take place, him and Sylhan are in public relationship that was famous throughout the whole kingdom that Lister is jealous of. Its probably why Lister treats Sylhan so terribly since he wants Sylhan to look his way but even without his memories Sylhan shows no interest in him but is rekindling his affections for Gjord. Becuase Lysbeth is slowly dying, she's unable to adequately protect Sylhan and he's at the mercy of Lister's abuse.

All the flashbacks is to give context of how Sylhan was as a ruler and him slowly remembering what he once was. Sylhan was a kind, cunning, and extremly intelligent person. He really didnt discriminate people based on birth status, creed, apperance, or magical practice and valued the actual person. Sylhan is the first person to treat Gjord with any semblance of resepect and belived in his capabilities without his judgment being clouded due to Gjord being an illegitimate child. This is one of the reasons why Gjord is so fiercely loyal and inlove with him.

The nobles in the region thought Sylhan's plan to connect the gorge and Khalhalk with a bridge as "treason" due to the presence of the gorge acting as a natural fortress and preventing Khalhalk from being invaded for thousands of years. In reality, the bridge would've weakend their powers in the regions they controlled and would greatly increase Sylhan's popularity who seemed to be already beloved by the people.

Right now, Sylhan is confusing the present with his past memories thinking they're happening now since he's retaking the original medication that Lysbeth was giving him but a lower dosage. Gjord is going along with it because the alternative would be Sylhan refusing to take it because he hates how its the cause of his memory loss. Unfortunately, Sylhan has to continue taking the medicine since its the only thing that can treat his mania that was cause by him being poisoned two years ago.

This is kinda the main thing going on in the story. There's the subplots of Lister's obsession, Gjord's arm, and then current Khalhalk ruler's intentions and hatred for Sylhan and other things but so far that's the main thing going on.
