I wasn't convinced by the synopsis, but I still gave it a chance because it's one of TR's works. But it's clearly not their best one, and while I won't say the characters are BADLY written, or that their dynamics are unoriginal... They're boring and reading it made me cringe a lot. It doesn't help that I don't find the art appealing at all. I couldn't even read it thoroughly and skimmed through many chapters because the plot, characters and their relationships felt so shallow.
Agh! It's such a shame because I'm genuinely a bit in love with TR's Odd Love ("Exotic Love" on here), and while not as good, I found Plaything to be a fun read too... Maybe because they had fewer important characters, but those works had way more emotional depth and a better plot. ----- Anyway, I'd recommend Odd Love if you're into toxic, mutually obsessive romance between two lovesick fools. It's grim and can get pretty dark (esp with substance abuse and physical violence) but I promise there's light at the end of the tunnel and I think it's worth the angst and frustration!
