Humm I can't remember but I don't really think it did from where I have read. I think there was close calls but it didn't happen. I can't remember tho

So, I only started reading this because I was bored, didn't much care for the art style or the premise. But I'm glad I did- turns out it's a lot sweeter than imagined and the art started to grow on me later on.
For people who've read the novel - Do Melmont (?? Forgot his name the librarian guy) and Ashler live? The first one has been throwing death flags since the beginning and I need to know
