Well there's quite a bit of side stories in the novel, and apparently there's stuff about AUs and also about the familys lives. Also Karina wrote letters, which the family opens every year. So Karina doesn't quite disappear from the story.

towards the very end, they do indeed meet. The very last chapter is about Mls final day, their daughter who's grown up and also found a partner for her. And ml dies, and ends up meeting Karina who says she's been waiting for quite a while. Seems there are few other characters that do die too.
It's such a sad but at the same time happy moment, ml also is shown to have only lived for their daughter. It's genuinely such a bittersweet chapters.
