Idk about newborns exactly but children's development are key specially from the few first months until age 2. It's how they recognize and learn facial expressions and social cues( if you are worried when they fall they will cry, if you behave normally they most likely will also be calm) and lots of important bonding as well, there was a study that showed that if a mother doesn't smile at all to her child, their emotional growth is already impacted and stunted :/ if you have a child, please take car of it responsibly
