Despite all the misery the characters experienced, their kindness and willingness to love and be loved shone through.

They wanted someone to be a monster, to overcome the hurt so profound they could not begin to understand. I too wondered if the ml was indeed someone sick and twisted. But as I reached the ending, I realised there were no monsters, not the woodsman nor the ml. They were just people who too, deserved to be loved and understood, to have the world be a little kinder to them.
