I think if the author gave more hints to JK's backstory a lot more people would find it easier to understand and empathize with him. But due to his personality and him just being a shitty guy back to back to back, it's harder. (Baby JK deserved better ngl) But when he was just a bad guy for so long without any redeeming qualities until so much later, it's hard to like him now. He was cute kid though.
