I don't know for sure but there is a Duke who had an arrangement of some curse with Dion. Curse in the sense that both of them has their Karma twisted. Duke tried to kill off Dion many times but failed, and Emperor ignored it as he only wanted a hero and he got one in form of Dion who had twisted Karma and survived the 8 years war.

His parents were incompetent as they only went for official methods to protect Dion, and using this Duke managed to force Dion into worst possible situation so that he could die. But in this Dion only felt betrayed that his family didn't even try so he went back to talk with them after the war.

His parents knew that they could be killed but they accepted death peacefully as a little price they could pay to satiate his anger. Unlike the comic here, they just told that they will accept whatever decision he make and silently accepted their deaths. MC got his trauma from here, after killing them in anger he didn't like the outcome and blamed himself dividing him into 2 personas to protect himself.

Cruel who loved Dion more than anything else watched this process and his world shattered. His parents killed by his own brother and his brother's mind suffering from all this trauma and making 2 personas. He decided to hide how his parent died from Dion because he feared that defense mechanism will be broken and he will kill himself. Meanwhile he acted as if he wanted revenge and got under Duke who wanted to use him to kill Dion and protected Dion while working as minion of Duke.

Then later in the story there was a huge war where Cruel protected MC and told him many things indirectly. He sacrificed himself to save MC but died eventually. This even fused his personalities and tried to kill himself from shock and grief but decided to kill off the Duke and Emperor before doing so.

In the end after he killed everyone off he also killed himself and got a meeting with the death. There death told him that both Duke and him got so much negative karma that they should have been destroyed instead of reincarnated. But due to the curse they will have to pay back by living next lives in a very bad shape. He then asked about Cruel and got to know that because he worked under Duke as a hero he also got negative Karma enough to make few of his next lives very bad. MC decided to take a deal where he will bear the karma of Cruel in exchange of being blind for rest of his lives. Then he died as he started losing his eyesight with a happy smile that he at least paid back his brother in the end. He was later buried alongside Cruel.
