Agaras cares about Desharow on a more physical than emotional level- like he wants Desharow be pretty like a doll and comfortable and by his side
everyone else is trash fr tho- they just wanna use Desharow or own him for no apparent reason or use him as a tool, i not quite sure what they motive behind being possessive over Desharow is even after reading the novel.
Rhine just want to possess him, the others just want to use him for the benefits just like anyone else used on their journey.. Agaras approach him because he knows him as he is made from his spores and his grandpa and mom never mentioned. Agaras is only protective of his own but since he is agaras only sucsessor sorta he is the only candidate to be his spouse not that he needs to be, but when they meet agaras get attracted to him and jealous of rhine making him want to claim him
pov as a writer who reads a lot of toxic $hit:
version 1 - and is most likely in my opinion
- general somehow convinces mc to zoom away
- (potentially kidnap him away but like "nicely(?)"
- cp goes oh no where he(mc) at and initially is like idgaf but then he goes but "i need me sum mc" like a dumba$$
- and cp manhunts for mc and locks him up for sure and tells him not to leave and stuff
- toxic happy ever after
version 2 - very unlikely but favored by many
- general convinces mc to run away
- cp dont care at first again but feels like he needs mc so orders a manhunt again
- general quits his job and is on the run with mc for their happily ever after
[though somewhere in the future i think general will either be heavily locked up or killed. not too sure though because it would put the mc in a more helpless situation and maybe thats what the author is going for

I wonder how this is all gonna end.
Either the author has no idea where to take this or they arent planning to have this be a happy ending. Imo trying to make a happy ending with this sort of "development" is gonna be awkward or at the very least extremely warped.
