In times like this his pride should be the last thing he’s thinking about. The ML lost his father and all he can think about is himself and ways to test the ML. I was actually mad the whole chapter. MC needs to be less egoistic and egocentred, I really feel bad for the ML
I don't find it egoistic tbh, its his self preservation mechanism kicking in full force.. for all his life he has pretty much loved this one guy and made sure to cover up feelings that would lead to a fallout between him and Jaeyi. He has pretty much conditioned himself to put distance between them instaed of talking things out especially their feelings. So running away from Jaeyi has become instinctual to him. They need couples and individual therapy tbh.

As a grown adult tho he should be able to understand that this is not the moment and act accordingly. Even if ML was not his boyfriend he was still his best friend all his life and he has just lost his father. There is no way it is ok and not egoistic to be thinking about yourself in a situation like that

Which is why he is trying to be brave when he pretty much feels unwelcomed. You can't break a pattern you cpnditioned yourself to for years within a span of a few months with absolute no mental support/therapy. Even a "grown adult" can be emotionally stunted in some ways. He also feels like a burden to his adopted family and moved out asap once he grew up and only goes back for gathering cz he partly feels obligated. He need therapy is my honest opinion. And once again its not egotistical to think about yourself first, pretty much everyone does. Everytime something happens in your life you think how its gonna affect you. It was a different thing if he were like "don't go bc your father didn't approve of us" or asking Jaeyi to once and for all choose him over his family, that would be truly egotistical.
